Laurel Partin is a member of the National Association of Band Instrument Repair Technicians (NAPBIRT) with a certificate in Band Instrument Repair Technology from Renton Technical College (RTC). She has been a clinician for NAPBIRT at International, National, and Regional events, as well as a guest clinician at RTC, Western Iowa Technical School, and the Yamaha Shokunin training. Laurel has managed high production shops at Tim's Music in Sacramento California, as well as Albuquerque Public Schools, J Sharp Music, and Artisan Winds in New Mexico. She has been a repairer specializing in student to professional-grade woodwind instruments since 2011.
Laurel is a performing musician in the Albuquerque area in a number of ensembles including Encantada Band (bassoon/bass clarinet), Albuquerque Concert Band (bassoon), Bosque Basoon Band, Symphony Orchestra of Albuquerque (bass clarinet/clarinets/bassoon), Banda Cuatro Estrellas (clarinet), Burque Brass Band (tenor sax, bass clarinet, vox). A lifelong musician and learner, she is currently studying bassoon, which created a passion for reedmaking.
Laurel, also a science educator and curriculum designer, designed multiple UC approved courses and taught science from 1995 in universities, colleges, and indepenent schools until she transitioned to musical instrument repair. Prior to teaching she was a viral biochemist and electron microscopist, earning her MS in Chemistry and Biochemistry from New Mexico State University. She was a contributing editor on Infection Control for Musical Instruments which is hosted by Eastman Music. She also has years of experience in making and installing custom cabinetry as well as in theatrical lighting design.
